I've been working on this for awhile. So here is Aleena the hedgehog with her older brother and sister, Chuck the hedgehog and Barbara the mouse. I think, that before the war with Robotnik, these three royal prince and princesses were loved and cherished throughout the lands.
However, when the rebellion started, they had to separate and Aleena was crowned queen to keep a facade of democracy within their region. I think Chuck is the oldest, mostly because he grayed first and would be the most responsible (Charleston). Barbara (or, Aleena calls her Barbi) is the middle and would probably be more suited for the crown over Aleena because of her leadership skills.

That is an interesting idea since the whole power of 3 is a theme within the Sonic Underground world and I do like it not starting just with Sonic's generation but even before him with his mother. Technically there is an "Uncle Chuck" in Sonic Underground that has a different sort of feel but yeah obviously a different sort of story then what you're going with but that still works.
